Project Independence

Completed Fall 2010

Project Independence is a HomeAid Care project designed to renovate and restore five apartments and two common area bathrooms for Santa Maria's Spring Branch location. These apartments will be used to assist Santa Maria in their effort to support and serve homeless female Veterans.

The mission of Santa Maria is to empower women and their children to become alcohol and drug free; the agency is also and they are committed to providing services for community improvement and enrichment. It is the largest multi-site substance abuse treatment center serving both women and their children in the State of Texas. Over the past five years, Santa Maria has treated over 5,000 women.

Santa Maria has over 50 years of experience serving women in crisis, and continually responding to the emerging needs of the community we serve.

HomeAid will be partnering with the Greater Houston Builders Association's Remodelers Council on this project. The Remodelers Council is providing remodelers and associates, who will work in teams to demolish and completely refurbish the apartment bathrooms.

In addition, designers will work with each team to "beautify" the apartment, providing fresh paint, new linens, storage solutions and special touches.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
A NEW BEGINNING

2010

The IDS Houston Chapter is raising funds for a North West Houston Habitat for Humanity house.  These funds will be used to design and implement the interior of the house.  Plans are in process and we have a recipient family.  The house is in under construction and should be completed in late April or early May.  We as a chapter will be working with the family to determine their needs and also the interior design for the home.  We are currently looking for vendors to donate materials and funds for this project.  We also are seeking individuals as well as companies that would like to help with funding.  Please contact us at houstonids@gmail.com

IDS HABITAT FAMILY

Our family is a single mother with two children. This family has been working on the Habitat site and has put in their 150 working hours in order to be assigned a house.  They will still need to work another 200 hours in order to buy their house.   All Habitat home owners are also required to meet Habitat's requirements for a loan in order to buy their house.  Habitat for Humanity fully funds the loans for these homes.  Families that meet these requirements and move into their homes have fully earned them and will pay for them with the help of a Habitat loan.  Habitat offers a hand-up to families that are willing to do their part.  IDS Houston is proud to be a part of extending a hand to this family as well as being a part of the Habitat for Humanity effort.
