Basic Window Treatment Gallery

Window treatments finish the window, they soften the hardness of the edges and add a beautiful frame for the view.  They add another layer to the room and provide color and texture.  Think of how an unfinished window affects the look and feel of a room.  The words stark and uninviting might come to mind when you enter a room that is void of finished windows.  There are times when the window treatment may be a beautiful casing that enhances and adds richness to the room.  Sometimes the treatment is in the form of shutters, either solid panels or slats.  Certainly the various blinds either slated or woven woods are used for a cleaner more contemporary form of window covering.  For a more custom look use a fabric covered roller shade.  This is still a sleek non-fussy style but it has color and pattern with the fabric covering.  Most times however, the window treatment is in the form of sewn folds of fabrics.  Window treatments may also be combined for added interest and function, such as blinds or woven woods and fabric drapes.

The styles of fabric window treatments are many and cover the causal to the very formal.  Always they should compliment your interior design.  Whether they are very formal or a more casual form of treatment such as a simple panel that is slid onto a rod and gathered to soften the window.  In many homes today we see windows that are two stories tall that need to be addressed.  These treatments will need to be custom made to fit the window as they are not standard sizes.  It is not surprising how much more elegant and inviting these tall windows are when finished with a window treatment.  Left undressed they may be cold and overbearing in the room.  A fabric treatment helps to make them feel more friendly and warm.

Not only is the window style a determining factor in the choice of the window treatment but also the fabric that is used for the treatment.  A checked fabric brings to mind a casual style room.  While a beautiful damask suggests a formal room. The fabric chosen for the window will not only help define the room as casual or formal but will also add color and texture.  Dressed windows are the defining touch to a beautiful room.
